Carcassonne to Trebes: 13 September

This morning before breakfast Ian and I and the Carsens went for a walk around the ramparts of the old fortified area of Carcassonne, known as La  Cité. The views across surrounding countryside were lovely in the early morning light.

After a delicious breakfast at our B & B, we set off to see Chateau Comtal. This is a medieval castle, built in 1125AD, within La  Cité and our self-guided tour gave us an appreciation of how well it could be defended.

We all had delicious ham and mushroom crepes for lunch at an outdoor cafe before returning to the B&B to pick up our luggage and take taxis to the town of Trebes.

In Trebes we walked to a supermarket to buy groceries and other supplies for our week-long boat trip, and then returned to the Le Boat depot to pick up our self-drive boat.

The boat is very comfortable, with five cabins, a large indoor kitchen/dining area and a spacious outside dining area too. We enjoyed a relaxed dinner on deck before retiring to our various cabins for a fairly early night. Our new adventure starts tomorrow!

PS Here is a lovely photo of cousins Lachie and Ella at the B & B.

PPS Downloading photos to the blog is VERY SLOW on the boat, so there may not be as many included during this part of our trip!
